Welcome to the website of the Burma Volunteer Program (BVP), a volunteer program in Thailand that serves populations from Burma on the Thailand-Burma border.
BVP’s goal is to build the capacity of Burmese community based organizations (CBOs) and non-government organizations (NGOs) by providing work placements within the Burmese community to enthusiastic and talented volunteers from around the world. Based in the culturally diverse and engaging Thailand border town of Mae Sot, BVP supports over 100 Burmese organizations in multiple locations along the border working in key sectors such as education, health, media, human rights, and democratization.
Most positions include English teaching although some also include writing, editing, human rights documentation and other related tasks. Unlike many other organizations, BVP does not charge a program fee. Placements are unpaid and volunteers have to cover travel, visa and personal insurance costs. Positions sometimes provide accommodation, food and local transport costs to save the volunteer the expenses of day-to-day living.
